The Big Meme 2: Revengeance

As many of you know, the Custom BIONICLE Wiki chat was deactivated early this month in order to boost wiki activity. I figured it would be interesting to look into and compare the edit counts on the wiki before chat was deactivated, during the week-long period after we were informed it was to be deactivated, and after it was deactivated. Keep in mind that these stats may not be 100% perfect. I collected them by hand and they may have some minor errors, but they should still reflect the general trend of wiki activity with fair accuracy.

Period 1

Period 1, from June 30th to July 22nd (the day we were informed chat was to be deactivated) is a 23-day period - a seemingly arbitrary number, but this was chosen to provide an equal sample size to the number of days since the chat's deactivation.

Period 2

Period 2, from July 23rd to the chat's deactivation on August 22nd, is the interim period during which we were given time to make a distinct improvement in the frequency of our edits before the final decision was made to deactivate chat.

What This Means

What these numbers mean - particularly the last two rows - is that the average wiki activity saw a sizeable increase in all departments - mainspace edits, non-mainspace edits (blogs, images, talk pages, etc.), image uploads, and pages moved. Overall, wiki activity was boosted by close to 100% - in other words, wiki activity actually doubled during this period. Draw your own conclusions.

On the other hand, the percentage of activity comprised of mainspace edits and uploads/page moves decreased slightly, bringing more balance to the mainspace/non-mainspace ratio, albeit with mainspace edits still more prominent.

Period 3

Period 3, from August 3rd to this past Thursday, August 25th, marks the duration of time (equivalent in length to Period 1) since chat has been disabled.

What This Means

Activity has seen a significant decline in the average number of mainspace edits, image uploads, and page moves per day in comparison to Period 1. The number of non-mainspace edits has nearly doubled, leading to a very slight increase in overall wiki activity; however, this activity is now comprised in the majority by non-mainspace edits.

Compared to Period 2, activity has declined in all departments.
